Glossary

Appointment

The regulatory filing authorising a producer to write business for a specific writing company in a specific jurisdiction.

Attainment

Actual production measured against a target — percentage, pace (ahead / on track / behind) and forecast — recomputed from ingested data.

Audit trail

The append-only record of consequential actions (filings, contract events, alert triage, hierarchy moves…), visible on the producer’s activity tab.

Background check

A screening order placed with a partner provider (or recorded manually) against a producer, with a clear / consider / failed outcome.

Base currency

The tenant’s functional currency: the default for new money records and the target that cross-currency totals are converted into using the tenant’s exchange rates.

Book transfer

Moving all of a producer’s active downline links to another producer of record in one operation.

Bulk job

A mass operation run in two phases — validate (a dry run that classifies every row as ready, skipped or invalid) and commit. Nothing is written until the commit is confirmed.

Carrier company

An individual NAIC-registered writing company belonging to the tenant (as opposed to the tenant’s group-level carrier profile).

CE

Continuing education — the training hours a producer must complete per jurisdictional cycle to keep a license.

Commission plan

The versioned rate card: rate lines (percentage or flat, optionally scoped by product, company, line of authority or tier) with an effective window. Signing its schedule contract locks the version; rates then change only by cutting a new version.

Commission scenario

A what-if simulation of a proposed commission rate against historical data (baseline vs projected, with the delta).

Commission statement

A per-producer statement for a period, built from ingested commission transactions; one statement per producer and period.

Compliance alert

A monitoring-raised issue (license/E&O expiring or expired, CE deadline, …) with a severity, triaged open → acknowledged / escalated → resolved / dismissed.

Compliance digest

The daily roll-up notification of new compliance alerts sent to owners and managers (and, separately, to producers for their own actionable items). Each alert is announced exactly once.

Composite score

The weighted producer performance score built from the volume, productivity and compliance dimensions.

Debt ledger

The append-only record of what a producer owes the tenant, per currency: advances, chargeback carry-forwards, recoveries and manual adjustments. Positive balance = the producer owes; corrections are offsetting adjustments, never edits.

One upline → downline relationship between two producers; the active links form the distribution hierarchy. May carry an override rate.

Draw agreement

A recurring advance paid to a producer against future commission. Recoverable draws post debt to the producer’s ledger when advances are posted; non-recoverable draws are informational.

E&O coverage

The producer’s Errors & Omissions (professional liability) insurance. Current E&O is a market-access prerequisite.

Exchange rate

A tenant-maintained, effective-dated conversion rate between two currencies. Conversions use the latest rate on or before the conversion date; a missing rate is surfaced, never guessed.

Incentive award

One producer’s payout under a program for a period; moves pending → approved → paid.

Incentive program

A reward scheme: bonus, contingent commission, profit share or contest.

Incentive statement

A read-only roll-up of a producer’s incentive awards for a period, grouped by program with per-currency subtotals and a base-currency total.

Ingestion batch

One inbound load of policy and/or commission data from a source system, with processing status and unresolved-row count.

JIT appointment

A just-in-time appointment — filed automatically at the moment of first business rather than in advance, where regulations and tenant settings allow.

Jurisdiction

A regulatory territory — a country or a subdivision (state, province, territory, region) — from the tenant’s reference data.

License

A producer’s regulatory license to transact in a jurisdiction, with type (resident / non-resident / temporary), expiry and CE obligations.

Line of authority

A licensable line of insurance (Property, Casualty, Life, Accident & Health, …) attached to a license.

The passwordless portal sign-in: a one-time emailed link that expires after 30 minutes.

Market access

The five-way readiness check (licensed, appointed, product authorised, E&O current, not terminated) deciding whether a producer can place a given product in a given jurisdiction.

Membership

The link between a user account and a tenant, carrying the user’s role (owner, manager or member) in that tenant.

Monitoring sweep

The scan of all active licenses and E&O coverages that raises compliance alerts; scheduled, or run on demand.

NPN

National Producer Number — the industry identifier for a producer. Used to match ingested PAS data to producer records and to look producers up in external registries.

Outbox event

An outbound domain event queued for webhook delivery; pending → published, or failed (dead-lettered) after 8 attempts.

Override commission

The commission an upline earns on their downline’s production: a hierarchy link’s override rate × the written premium of every policy in the branch beneath that link.

PAS

Policy Administration System — the external system of record for policies, quotes and billing that feeds tigerdistribute.

Payability

The derived verdict — producer active, actively licensed, E&O current — signalling the PAS whether to pay the producer. Re-evaluated by the daily monitoring sweep; flips are published as webhook events.

Payment run

The step that turns payable statements and approved awards into payout instructions — consolidating per currency, netting the producer’s debt at run time and applying their minimum payout. Fires inline for immediate-cadence producers or nightly on a weekly/monthly/quarterly cadence.

Payout instruction

A payment run’s consolidated outcome for one producer and currency: the statements and awards it paid, gross, recovery applied and net pay, published to the PAS as a PayoutInstructedV1 event and tracked through published → acknowledged → paid (or held when payability is blocked or nothing is payable).

Plan assignment

The dated link putting a producer on a commission plan (effective-from, optionally until). Statements verify against the plan in force for their period.

Plan cap

An optional per-period ceiling on a commission plan, in the plan’s currency. Commission above it is withheld on the statement (a withheld line) and the payable total drops to the cap; the rate-card expectation — and reconciliation — is unaffected.

Producer

An individual agent or business entity (agency, sub-agency, GA, MGA) that distributes insurance products.

Producer portal

The producer-facing self-service area (/portal): compliance standing, finalized statements, contracts and book of business. Sign-in is by magic link only.

Product authorisation

Permission for a producer to distribute a specific product from the tenant’s catalog.

Reconciliation

The expected-vs-received comparison on a commission statement; matched when the variance is zero, otherwise variance.

Recovery

The portion of a statement’s gross withheld at settlement to repay the producer’s same-currency debt — the whole balance by default (full offset), or at most the tenant’s recovery cap per statement when one is configured.

Registry sync

Looking a producer up in an external registry (NIPR, PDB, FCA, manual, CSV) by NPN and updating their licenses from the result.

Roll-up

The rule that a producer-subject target counts the producer’s own production plus their entire active downline’s.

Roster import

The bulk job that creates producers from a CSV keyed on NPN; existing producers are skipped, never overwritten.

Schedule exhibit

The signable commission schedule contract rendered from a plan version’s rate table, usually attached to the producer’s master agreement as an exhibit.

Split rule

An effective-dated rule giving a payee a fixed share of a writing producer’s base commission, optionally scoped to one product. Concurrent shares for one writer can never exceed 100%.

Statement dispute

A producer’s question about a finalized statement (or one of its lines), raised from the portal; moves open → in review → resolved / rejected, with the resolution emailed back.

Target

One goal line in a plan: a subject (producer, team or tenant), a metric, a target value (optionally stretch/floor) and optional product/jurisdiction scope.

Target plan

A named set of production targets covering one period (annual, quarterly or monthly); moves draft → active → closed.

Tenant

An organisation (carrier, MGA or agency network) with its own isolated space on the platform. All data belongs to exactly one tenant.

Tier

A named score band defined by the tenant (for example Platinum 80–100), optionally carrying a commission-rate override. Producers are placed into a band from their composite score, or pinned to one manually by a manager.

Upline / Downline

A producer’s parent in the hierarchy / the subtree of producers beneath them.

Webhook endpoint

A subscriber URL (with signing secret) that receives the tenant’s outbound events.
